    Dahi Choora/Chura, Bihar Special

    Apr 3, 2014 · Modified: Dec 20, 2020 by Priya_Srinivasan ·

Today we are stopping by Bihar for breakfast or you can call it a snack too. Flattened rice, called chura/choora in Bihar and chiwra/poha in other parts of north India, is a popular snack ingredient in east India. This humble dish has no cooking involved at all. yes, you can just whip it up in minutes, provided you have ⅔ varieties of fresh fruits in hand.
If you think small about this dish, the wait, it is a festive special. oh yes, this humble curd mixed flattened rice, topped with fruits is a Makara-Sankranthi Special (pongal in our language). When we accept foreign parafait and go ga-ga behind it, we should definitely promote this as our desi parafait, which is more healthy.

Take my word, make it and have with seasonal fruits, you would never regret it. I made only one change i used brown sugar and drizzled maple syrup extra on top. I layered it like parafait and served Desi Breakfast, Videshi(foreign) Style!!!! 🙂

Recipe source : The steaming pot
Ingredients (serves  2, if he/she is voraciously hungry then 1)
½ Cup Flattened Rice/Poha/Chura, thin variety
    1 Cup Plain Yogurt/Dahi/Curd
½ Cup Fresh Fruits, (I used grapes, pomogranate, bananas)y
    2 teaspoon Milk
    Brown sugar/honey/maple syrup/Jaggery to taste

    Method

    • Wash the poha/chura well in a couple of changes of water. Drain completely let it soak in 2 teaspoons of milk for 15-20 minutes.
    • Thin variety poha/chura is prefered, if using thick variety, then soak for more time, about 30 minutes. If the poha is mashable when you press it inbetween your fingers, then it is ready to eat.
    • Whip yogurt well with honey or jaggery. Mix together with chura.Add cubed fresh fruit.Serve immediately.
    • If you prefer layering, then in a glass, put some fresh fruits, add 2 tablespoon of curd mixed chura/choora, top with brown sugar, add another layer of fruits and choora. Top this with fruits, brown sugar and a slight drizzle of maple syrup/honey . Take a spoon, dig in!!!

I love this Priya. Images are tempting. When we were kids, we used to eat poha with sweetened milk. This seems like a healthy breakfast option.
