2 summer drinks - One main ingredient

Some summer drinks are best kept simple, and these green grape smoothies are exactly that. I had two similar grape drinks on the blog, one with plenty of ginger, lemon and chia seeds, and another made with tender coconut water. Bringing them together makes it much easier to choose the version you feel like drinking.

Both begin with sweet, seedless green grapes and need only a few everyday ingredients. Make the ginger-mint smoothie when you want something bright and zesty, or choose the coconut-water smoothie for a lighter, delicately sweet drink. Neither version contains milk, yogurt or refined sugar.

Why you will love these grape smoothies

  • Two variations in one place: Choose between a bold ginger-mint drink and a milder coconut-water smoothie.
  • No milk or yogurt: Both versions are light, fruity and completely dairy-free.
  • No refined sugar: Ripe grapes provide plenty of sweetness. Taste the drink before adding any optional sweetener.
  • Quick to make: The blender does most of the work, while the chia seeds need only a short soak.
  • Easy to adjust: Serve the drink unstrained for more body or strain it for a lighter, juice-like texture.

ingredients needed

  • Seedless green grapes. we usually get good quality seedless grapes in the nearby grocery stores. Available all year along.

Tips for the best smoothie

  • Begin with cold ingredients. Chilled grapes and liquid make the drink refreshing without needing much ice.
  • Taste the grapes first. If they are very tart, add a little maple syrup or agave after blending.
  • Adjust the ginger. Use less for a mild drink or the full amount for a stronger ginger flavor.
  • Do not over-thin it. Add extra water only a tablespoon at a time.
  • Stir before serving. Chia seeds continue to thicken and may settle at the bottom.
  • Choose the texture you enjoy. Keeping the grape skins gives the smoothie more body, straining produces a smoother, juice-like drink.

For Coconut Water Smoothie

  • In a blender take green grapes and tender coconut water and blend until smooth. Strain the smoothie using a strainer to remove the grape skin.x
  • To this add chia seeds soaked water, ginger and lemon juice. Give a good stir. Serve immediately.

Punchy Minty Ginger Grape Smoothie

  • Take grapes, ginger and lemon juice along with water in the blender and blend smooth. Strain the smoothie to remove the grape skin.
  • Transfer it to a pitcher, add chia seeds, mint leaves and serve.

Notes

  • Chill the liquid you are using for an ice cold smoothie or serve with ice.
  • I have not used any sugar to sweeten the juice, if you need any extra sweetness, try adding raw sugar or use honey/agave nectar.
