Strawberry agua fresca/Mexican Strawberry Water

Jun 4, 2017 · Modified: Mar 14, 2021 by Priya_Srinivasan ·

Sharing is caring!

Last one week was like whirlwind. It was my elder ones birthday last friday and we had a small party at home with friends and went out for a fun evening to Noor island, sharjah. We had great fun and enjoyed to the fullest, forgetting that we were grown-ups, even our kids were shocked to see us climb ropes, jumping on the trampoline, shouting our heart out!
My lil one was so angry, he lashed us out, saying "i m shouting for a long time for you to come and take a photo of me, climbing this rope, and you are not listening, Bad amma"
We were so tired the next day, all of us slept like a baby. As usual baking took a toll on me, i was a bit more tired than others 😅
Why such a long story, you may ask? yeah, in all this fun, i totally forgot about this month Blogging marathon and wasn't ready with any of the recipes for the first week. Unknowingly, i have all recipes ready for week 2.
I chose Latin-American Cuisine for week 1. The reason to pick such a theme, is to move away from my comfort zone and experiment. Being such a lazy bum, i again look for comfort recipes in such a theme too!

According to Wiki, Latin America, refers to territories in the Americas, where the spanish or Portuguese language prevail. Mexico, most of Central and South America, and in the Caribbean, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico. I was happy to have such a broad spectrum of cuisines to chose from.
Today, i present you a very simple, yet colorful recipe, Agua de fresca. Agua fresca is a non-alcoholic drink, usually a combination of either fruit, cereals, seeds blended  along with water and sugar. Here i have made Strawberry agua fresca, since i had some fresh strawberries in hand.

Ingredients (serves 2)
1 cup chopped fresh strawberries
4 tablespoon sugar
1.5 cups of ice-cold water
juice of half a lemon
ice cubes to serve

Method

  • Wash, hull and chop the strawberries roughly. Add sugar to this and refrigerate for an hour.  After an hour, take the berries along with water and blend smooth.
  • Pass the juice through a strainer to remove the seeds. Once strained, add lemon juice to it and mix well.
  • Add some ice cubes to serving glass, pour the fresh juice over ice and serve immediately.

Without sugar it might not taste good bhawana. If the berries are sweet enough you can adjust the amount
